Former TMC leader Riju Dutta supports UCC bill, calls for one law.

Former TMC leader Riju Dutta has expressed his support for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill, emphasizing the necessity of having a single law for all citizens in the country. Dutta articulated that the principle of equality before the law is fundamental to a democratic society and that a Uniform Civil Code would ensure that individuals are treated equally, regardless of their religion or personal beliefs. He further argued that the implementation of UCC would help eliminate the discrepancies and inequalities that currently exist in personal laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption across different communities.

In his statement, Dutta highlighted that the existence of multiple personal laws can lead to confusion and may even perpetuate discrimination among various groups. By establishing a Uniform Civil Code, the government would not only simplify legal processes but also promote social harmony and unity among diverse communities. He believes that a cohesive legal framework is essential for the progress of a nation, as it would foster a sense of belonging and equality among all citizens.

Moreover, Dutta pointed out that the UCC is not merely a legal reform but a significant step toward achieving gender justice. He noted that many personal laws tend to be biased against women, and a uniform code would address these issues by providing equal rights and protections for all genders. By advocating for the UCC, Dutta is aligning with a vision of a modern India where equality and justice prevail, irrespective of an individual’s background or beliefs. He urged all political parties to come together in support of this vital legislation for the betterment of society as a whole.
