Rahul Gandhi: PM Modi Weakens MNREGA to Favor Capitalists

Rahul Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of prioritizing the interests of capitalists at the expense of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). He argues that the Modi administration is systematically undermining this crucial program, which was designed to provide guaranteed employment and financial security to rural households in India. According to Gandhi, the weakening of MNREGA directly impacts the livelihoods of millions of rural workers who rely on it as a safety net during times of economic distress.

Gandhi’s critique highlights the broader implications of policy decisions made by the government, suggesting that such actions favor big business over the welfare of the common people. He believes that by diminishing the effectiveness of MNREGA, the government is not only disregarding the needs of rural citizens but also facilitating a shift towards privatization, which benefits a select few capitalists. This, he contends, contributes to increasing inequality and undermines the social fabric that MNREGA was designed to strengthen.

Furthermore, Gandhi emphasizes the importance of MNREGA in empowering rural communities and providing them with a sense of dignity through work. He argues that the program plays a vital role in alleviating poverty and enhancing the quality of life for rural populations. By weakening this initiative, the government risks exacerbating existing socio-economic disparities and neglecting the fundamental rights of citizens to secure employment and income. In his view, safeguarding MNREGA is essential for the overall development of rural India and ensuring that the benefits of growth are shared more equitably among all citizens.
